If one is to be really careful with his/her teeth he should brush them after every meal. Particles of food should not be allowed to remain on the outside of the teeth and especially between them. Brushing them by taking a stick and chewing at the end to make
a brush, as is done in some part of the world, is not good. The bristles do not get between the teeth well and rubbing the stick horizontally over the teeth tends to push more food between them. Besides it wears off the hard enamel shell of the tooth, the loss or damage of which will cause the tooth to decay. Another bad effect of the stick method is that it wears away the protective tissue at the base of the teeth, so much so that in some cases the roots become entirely exposed.
Some people use the finger to clean their teeth, which is not good, for it also wears away the gums, resulting in some cases that expose the root of the tooth. This method does not remove the food from between the teeth, in fact it pushes the food in.
There is only one good method of cleaning the teeth which involve the use of tooth brush and you are advice to make use of it after every meal. When using the brush to clean your teeth, make sure that you move it up and down over the teeth so that the food will be removed from between them. In doing this, you should be careful not to injure the gums. Tooth paste is pleasing to the mouth and gives a sense of freshness and good taste. But it not necessary. If it happens that you finish eating a meal and you don't have access to your tooth brush, we advice you to rinse your mouth with clean water and use your tooth brush when ever you get close to it.
