Miss Oyeleye Lateefah Abiola has emerged
as the overall best graduating student at
the National University of Kharkiv in Ukraine
where she studied Medicine.
According to Premium Times, Miss Abiola
was one of the 87 students sponsored by
the Osun state government and topped her
2017
class with a percentage score of
95.6% in a class that had 564 students. Semiu Okanlawon who is the
director of the
Bureau of Communication and Strategy in a
statement explained that the deputy
governor of the state, Grace Titi Laoye-
Tomori, will lead a delegation from the state
to attend the graduation ceremony on June
30.
The director explained that Miss Abiola was
one of the 98 students who were supposed
to study medicine at Osun State University
but the National University Commission
scraped the course due to the non-
availability of a teaching hospital.
"This was a source of concern to the
Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
This
unfortunate development compelled the
governor to seek for options to rescue the
students from abrupt truncation of their
dreams to become medical doctors.
"In the course of looking for solutions, the
National University of Kharkiv, Ukraine came
into focus. By 2012, arrangements were concluded to send the students to Ukraine
where they resumed their studies,"
Okanlawon explained. He said the rest of the students who did not
go to Ukraine already had option secured
for them by their parents.
He said the government had to wade off
criticism against the decision to send the
students to Ukraine to complete their
medical studies.
