The nose is the natural entrance for the air in the body. The nose is
lined with
numerous small hairs that help to prevent the entrance of
dust and germs that are in the air we breath.
As the air passes through the nose, it is warmed and moistened. On the other hand, when
we breath through the mouth, the air is not warmed and moistened
before it enters the pharynx.
This makes the pharynx dry and causes it to produce mucus. This leads
to coughing and colds. A child who breaths through the mouth should be
taken to a physician in order that the physician may examine the nose
and throat and remove any adenoids that may be found.
